Sign Orientation for Properties: What are Your Options?

When choosing the best sign that will help your business, you have to consider the sign orientation that will best suit you and your needs. As a general rule, there are four basic configurations that are ranked from least to most for easy access conditions:

#01. On building ground level

#02. Single-Sided

#03. Back-to-Back

#04. V-Shaped

Let’s talk about their differences:

#01. On Building Ground Level

For a ground level wood building with easy access, this method provides a more economical method to put a message on a building. The building, however, should have good site lines to a descent volume of either vehicular or pedestrian traffic. With this sign orientation, you can be sure that your message will be easily seen by passersby, passengers and drivers alike!

#02. Single-Sided

If you want a large sign that only needs to be visible from one side, then a single-sided billboard would be your best option. For instance, if your sign will be exposed to traffic that is only coming from one direction, then there is no need for a double-sided sign. Every location and situation is different, so it is important to assess your preferred location. This sign is also an economical option for locations where there is only one side of the sign visible or the other side might be blocked by trees, etc.

#03. Back-to-Back

This sign orientation is great to place alongside a road where traffic is unlikely to stop on two lane roadways. It definitely allows your audience to view your sign from each direction. For example, if the traffic that will be exposed to your sign will come from both directions, then a double-sided sign will work best for you. Keep in mind that a double-sided sign will offer good visibility from both directions.

#04. V-Shaped

This type of configuration is the most popular road side configuration especially at intersections where traffic usually stops. Why is it the most popular option? It allows your audience to view the sign from both directions parallel to the road as well as perpendicular to the road while vehicles are at rest or stopped. V-shaped signs easily catch the attention of your audience. They are also recommended for large rooms and hallways.
